As follow up to their masterplan for the the public spaces of the City of Korca high in the Albanian mountains, BOLLES+ WILSON are designing 4 neighbourhood squares. The first of these involves an illegal house that the city planned to demolish for road widening. The B+W square design suggested only shaving off the back half of the house. The mayors plan was to compulsary purchase the remains for a museum of illegal buildings – to teach his citizens good behaviour. The owner then asked if he could remain in the surviving half house – yes answered B+W but it must be blue this he was happy to do. Now this spot in Korca is indelibly anchored in the city plan as the square of the BLUE 1/2 HOUSE.
